SUDBURY – Goodnow Library, as part of the Dementia Friendly Sudbury initiative, has prepared a list of library resources that are available to people with memory issues and their loved ones.
Assistant Library Director Karen Tobin has served on the Dementia Friendly Sudbury Action Team since 2019, and developed a community resource list for people with dementia and their loved ones, including children and teens.
The list features books for adults with dementia, their caregivers, teens and kids, as well as websites and community groups from across the state and nation that can provide resources.
“Dementia touches nearly everyone’s life, whether you’re a person living with dementia yourself, a caregiver, a family member, or a friend,” said Assistant Director Tobin. “The Dementia Friendly movement is dedicated to increasing understanding of this condition and its effects, and fostering a safe and compassionate environment for those who live with it.”
Assistant Director Tobin is also a Dementia Friends Champion and has given Dementia Friend Info Sessions to libraries, community groups and volunteers. She also advises libraries across the state and beyond on getting involved in the Dementia Friendly movement, and has shared the resource list with other libraries as a starting point for creating their own lists.
