Getting a Library Card

If you already have a library card from any of the members of the Minuteman Library Network, you can use that card at the Goodnow Library. If not, bring some identification (such as a driver’s license) to the library. In a few minutes, after filling out a simple form, you will have a card good throughout all 44 libraries in the Minuteman network.

You may also apply for a temporary library card online.



1 Week

  • New DVDs and Blu-rays (Feature Films)
  • Speed Read and Quick Read Books

2 Weeks

  • Everything else except museum passes and downloadable materials


  • Museum passes are due back before we open the day after they are used, unless we are closed for a holiday, snow day or summer Sunday, when they are due back before we open on the next day we are open.)

DOWNLOADABLE MATERIALS (eBooks, eAudiobooks, Video, Music)

  • Downloadable content is provided through several sources.  Loan periods and renewals vary by source and/or material type.  Materials are returned automatically and no fines are charged.


  • Most items may be renewed twice if there are no outstanding requests. There are no renewals on the following items:
    • Speed Read and Quick Reads Books
    • New DVDs and Blu-ray (Feature Films and TV Series)


  • Most items may be requested by any patron, with the exception of Speed Read and Quick Read Books. Console Games, eReaders and technology devices may be requested by Sudbury residents for Sudbury pick up only.


  • Kindles, iPads, Launchpads and Playviews, Kill-a-Watts and Hotspots borrowed from Goodnow must be returned to the Circulation Desk at Goodnow. They should never be placed in the book drops or returned to another library. There will be a $5 fee assessed for returning any of these items through the book drops or to another library.
  • Video Games must be returned directly to the Goodnow Library and not to any other library.
  • All other items may be put in the book drops or returned to any Minuteman library.


Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the Goodnow Library is waiving fines since until further notice. This applies only to fines accrued from March 2020 to the present, and does not apply to any other fees.

All items (except museum passes) are charged at a rate of 10¢ per day, with a maximum per item of $3.00.  Museum passes are charged at a rate of $3.00, with a maximum of $10.00.

All items have a three-day grace period except:

    • Speed Read and Quick Reads Books
    • New DVDs and Blu-ray (Feature Films and TV Series)
    • Console Games
    • Playviews
    • Kindles
    • iPads and Launchpads
    • Special Equipment (Kill-a-Watt energy monitors, Hotspots etc.)


Any item that is lost or returned in unusable condition will be billed to the patron at the price listed in the catalog. If there is no price in the catalog, a default price (based on the type of material) will be assessed.

  • The determination of the usability of the item will be made by the supervisor of the department at the owning library to which the item was assigned. Goodnow cannot make the decision for other libraries’ materials.
  • NO REFUNDS will be made under any circumstances, so please raise any concerns before payment is made.
  • Payment for lost or damaged items will be accepted only. No replacement copies will be accepted.
