Book Clubs

The Goodnow Library offers several choices of book clubs for all ages and interests. If you are interested in starting a new book club, please let us know!

The Bookies

The “Bookies:” A group that easily goes undercover while reading books you can really bet on. Read ’em and weep, or laugh… have fun, get smart! Feel free to ask for a copy from Randy LeSage, Group Leader. We hope you will attend and enjoy a lively, informal discussion!

The Bookies typically meet every other month on a Tuesday. Please check our online calendar for dates and details. Start time is 6:30 PM. Please contact Randy LeSage at [email protected] for more information.

Books in Bloom

Do you love to read? Do you enjoy arranging fresh flowers or silk flowers? Would you like to combine your two interests and share them with a group?

Books will be ordered by Maureen Hines, Group Leader. Just bring yourself, your creativity, and a sense of fun to the meeting. We will share a love of books and a love or arranging flowers–No expertise is needed. Books in Bloom currently meets online. This program is free and sponsored by the Goodnow Library.

Books in Bloom is currently at capacity. To be placed on the waiting list, or for other inquiries, please contact Maureen Hines.

The Goodnow True Crime Book Club

Due to the popular demand of podcasts, such as “My Favorite Murder” and TV series like Tiger King, we are offering this new book club for our readers with an interest in True Crime. Each month, the group will choose a book (or books) about a particular crime to read and discuss. The True Crime Book Club usually meets online on the second Tuesday of each month.  Registration is required through our online calendar.

The Great American Read Book Club

Welcome to The Great American Read Book Club!

Inspired by PBS’ The Great American Read, we will spend each month reading and discussing a book from the list of America’s 100 most-loved books. The Great American Read Book Club usually meets online on the third Thursday of each month.  Registration for each session is required through our online calendar.

Book Groups for Kids

The Children’s department offers two monthly book groups for our elementary age patrons: one for 2nd and 3rd graders, and one for 4th and 5th graders. The kids get to help pick the book selections and then meet to discuss over snacks one evening each month. Each group will play a game, or complete a fun activity related to the book, and we’ve even been fortunate enough to have local authors visit the groups! Registration is required for each session through our online calendar and the books can be picked up at the children’s desk.

Book Groups for Teens

The Teen department offers two monthly book groups for teens and tweens: one for middle-schoolers, and one for high-schoolers. The kids get to help pick the book selections and then meet to discuss over snacks one evening each month. Registration is required for each session through our online calendar and the books can be picked up in the teen area on the windowsill.
